The 70’s have always seemed to me a decade of one endless golden summer, of my parents in love and in bell bottoms, of Elton John, ABBA, The Bee Gees and Fleetwood Mac. From the most delicate little daisies to a wedding dress found at a vintage store in London, everything about Nick and Mary’s wedding was bewitching. It was every bit a beautiful daydream, made even more enchanting by the pouring rain and the glorious Tararuas. Put on your rose colored glasses, or in this case, some far out oversized amber glasses, and prepare yourselves for some earnest retrospection. Ooh I hear laughter in the rain, walking hand in hand with the one I love. Ooh how I love the rainy days and the happy way I feel inside…

Now the sky could be blue, I don’t mind, without you it’s a waste of time. Could be blue, could be grey, without you
I’m just miles away.

Strawberry Swing, Coldplay

In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.

I feel like this is the beginning, though I’ve loved you for a million years.

You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, Stevie Wonder

Love like rain, like the smell of a tangerine, like a surprise found in your pocket.

Deb Caletti

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.

John Ruskin

I think, that you can meet someone one day, who possesses the eyes you never had but always needed; the vision to see backwards and forwards and all around, the other wing that you need to complete your flight. And I think it can just happen, suddenly, without explanation! And then I think, it would be good to keep that person, you’ll always have those eyes, and always have two wings.

Umm, does anybody here know how to tie a tie? Here comes Candy (and a little bit of Google’s “How To Tie a Tie”) to the rescue! Meanwhile, over on the bride’s side, we were also figuring out how to properly “tie” up the wedding dress!

When you are loved, you can do anything in creation. When you are loved, there’s no need at all to understand what’s happening, because everything happens within you.

“The Alchemist,” Paulo Coelho

You can transmute love, ignore it, muddle it, but you can never pull it out of you. I know by experience that the poets are right: love is eternal.

“A Room with a View,” E.M. Foster

In my body, bells
Shake the sky,
And a hymn fills the world.

Only you and I,
Only you and I, my love,
Listen to it.

Pablo Neruda

I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, then all at once.

“The Fault In Our Stars,” John Green

It is quite impossible to be surrounded by this many sunflowers and successfully resist all feelings of joy and happiness. At Megan and Gary’s wedding, I stepped into a beautiful day and remained there, enraptured, mesmerized, overwhelmed. How humbling it was seeing rows of sunflowers, their beautiful bright faces dancing gracefully towards the endless blue sky, each turn a prayer, each twirl an offering to the sun. The lemon trees and the extraordinarily incandescent river from the neighboring property were calling out to me, and I cannot even begin to convey how tremendous my desire was to eat and inhale every lemon from every tree or how earnestly I wanted to dip my toes in the glistening water. Each second was beauty deepened only by glory, the grandeur of the afternoon enchanting and bewildering me all at once. My eyes grew wild and bright like a child’s, and I am forever grateful for this divine day.  ♥

On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the world is full of beauty. Today is such a day. There’s a breeze that can enter your soul. This love that I know plays the drum, arms move around me. Who can contain their self before this beauty? On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the love begins. Today is such a day.

Jalaludin Rumi

The skies,
which make me think of your name
As they bear faithful witness for me.

The place where I stand
which brings my mind back to the hand
that set it beneath me
The place where I stand.

Solomon Ibn Gabirol

All in all, it was a never-to-be-forgotten summer — one of those summers which come seldom into any life, but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going — one of those summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather, delightful friends and delightful doing, come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world.

L.M. Montgomery

Awake my dear
Be kind to your sleeping heart.

Take it out into the vast fields of light
and let it breathe.

When you find somebody you love, all the way through, and she loves you — even with your weaknesses, your flaws, everything starts to click into place. And if you can talk to her, and she listens, if she makes you laugh, and makes you think, makes you want, makes you see who you really are, and who you are is better, just better with her, you’d be crazy not to want to spend the rest of your life with her.

Nora Roberts

Just one smile
Immensely increases the beauty
Of the universe.

Sri Chinmoy

Because it’s not the pledge to love someone that matters, but the act of fulfilling that pledge that is most important. In other words, it’s only just begun.

Laura Wolf

Two Trees
A portion of your soul has been
entwined with mine
A gentle kind of togetherness, while
separately we stand.
As two trees deeply rooted in
separate plots of ground,
While their topmost branches
come together,
Forming a miracle of lace
against the heavens.

The Power of a Woman, Janet Mills

Marriage is those two thousand indistinguishable conversations, chatted over two thousand indistuinguishable breakfasts, where intimacy turns like a slow wheel. How do you measure the worth of becoming that familiar to somebody — so utterly well known and so thoroughly ever-present that you become an almost invisible necessity, like air?

Elizabeth Gilbert

I know what it is to live entirely for and with what I love best on earth. I hold myself supremely blest – blest beyond what language can express; because I am my husband’s life as fully as he is mine.

Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë
