Into the wind,
the same wind that the clouds feel,
the bright rivers and the turning mills
that stand slowly grinding at the sky’s edge.
Now I too am a thing held in its hand,
the smallest thing under the sky.

to satisfy the mind

This ocean is yours, and mine:
these buttons and wheels and little forgotten treasures,
fans upon whose feathers, love has scattered its blossoms, glasses, knives and scissors,
all bear the trace of someone’s fingers on their handle or surface,
the trace of a distant hand lost in the depths of forgetfulness.

Rest with your dream in my dream.
Love and pain and work should all sleep, now.
The night turns on its invisible wheels,
and you are pure beside me as a sleeping ember.

No one else, Love, will sleep in my dreams. You will go, we will go together, over the waters of time.
No one else will travel through the shadows with me, only you, evergreen, ever sun, ever moon.

Ruth and Anthony are two of the most amazing, most hilarious people you’ll ever meet, and I’m not just saying this because I personally witnessed the backseat of our speeding car transform into the backstage of a runway show, with full hair and makeup and reflective discussions on stallions, godfathers and missionary camps transpiring between horse riding, tree climbing, sunset chasing and swing making (as in, we were making swings).

It is always an event every time these two find their way back to the Philippines, and I am rewarded every second, as a friend and as a photographer, with the love and time and trust they give me. Everything you see here is exactly that. Their love. Their time. Themselves. And their complete confidence in me, to go barefoot on sharp, slippery rocks during high tide, make out at high noon in long sleeves in 36 degrees Celsius siesta weather, and stay still and smiling for the cameras while their horses relieve themselves. I love you De Castros. Thank you. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day, and I am beyond excited at the days ahead. ♥

Thank you Bong and CJ of Threelogy! Please watch their wonderful video of this day here!

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Ruth and Anthony got married in Boracay on February 13, 2014! Congratulations!!! Photos coming soon from the phenomenal Nelwin Uy! ♥

The 70’s have always seemed to me a decade of one endless golden summer, of my parents in love and in bell bottoms, of Elton John, ABBA, The Bee Gees and Fleetwood Mac. From the most delicate little daisies to a wedding dress found at a vintage store in London, everything about Nick and Mary’s wedding was bewitching. It was every bit a beautiful daydream, made even more enchanting by the pouring rain and the glorious Tararuas. Put on your rose colored glasses, or in this case, some far out oversized amber glasses, and prepare yourselves for some earnest retrospection. Ooh I hear laughter in the rain, walking hand in hand with the one I love. Ooh how I love the rainy days and the happy way I feel inside…

Now the sky could be blue, I don’t mind, without you it’s a waste of time. Could be blue, could be grey, without you
I’m just miles away.

Strawberry Swing, Coldplay

In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.

Rumi

I feel like this is the beginning, though I’ve loved you for a million years.

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.

It is quite impossible to be surrounded by this many sunflowers and successfully resist all feelings of joy and happiness. At Megan and Gary’s wedding, I stepped into a beautiful day and remained there, enraptured, mesmerized, overwhelmed. How humbling it was seeing rows of sunflowers, their beautiful bright faces dancing gracefully towards the endless blue sky, each turn a prayer, each twirl an offering to the sun. The lemon trees and the extraordinarily incandescent river from the neighboring property were calling out to me, and I cannot even begin to convey how tremendous my desire was to eat and inhale every lemon from every tree or how earnestly I wanted to dip my toes in the glistening water. Each second was beauty deepened only by glory, the grandeur of the afternoon enchanting and bewildering me all at once. My eyes grew wild and bright like a child’s, and I am forever grateful for this divine day.  ♥

On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the world is full of beauty. Today is such a day. There’s a breeze that can enter your soul. This love that I know plays the drum, arms move around me. Who can contain their self before this beauty? On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the love begins. Today is such a day.

Jalaludin Rumi

The skies,

All in all, it was a never-to-be-forgotten summer — one of those summers which come seldom into any life, but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going — one of those summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather, delightful friends and delightful doing, come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world.

Here is a little sneak peek at Los and Julie’s engagement session! Please save the date of April 3, 2013! You can see more of Los and Julie’s love story here

You open your heart

knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you.

You find strength

in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.

Bob Marley

I believe a strong woman may be stronger than a man, particularly if she happens to have love in her heart. I guess a loving woman is indestructible.

East of Eden, John Steinbeck

He smiled understandingly – much more than understandingly.

It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced–or seemed to face–the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor.

It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.

The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

Babies are soft. Anyone looking at them can see the tender, fragile skin and know it for the rose-leaf softness that invites a finger’s touch. But when you live with them and love them, you feel the softness going inward, the round-cheeked flesh wobbly as custard, the boneless splay of the tiny hands. Their joints are melted rubber, and even when you kiss them hard, in the passion of loving their existence, your lips sink down and seem never to find bone. Holding them against you, they melt and mold, as though they might at any moment flow back into your body. But from the very start, there is that small streak of steel within each child. That thing that says “I am,” and forms the core of personality.

Dragonfly In Amber, Diana Gabaldon

So begins a beautifully sweet afternoon with Noah, who turned 3 weeks old that day. It is such a wonderful experience watching newborns fall asleep, their pink little arms and toes dancing earnestly to the sun’s rays right before slumber (and how nothing in the world can wake them up once they’re there). Noah was such a good boy, crying only for his milk and a diaper change. And before we knew it, amidst all the adults fussing about him in one of the hottest days of the year, Noah sunk blissfully deep, deep, deep into dreamland.

Thank you Lynn, Jay, YayaLola and Arianne for teatime and a lovely siesta hour. ♥

A first child is your own best foot forward, and how you do cheer those little feet as they strike out. You examine every turn of flesh for precocity, and crow it to the world.

The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver

Newborn babies can’t do much on their own –
They can’t eat or walk or talk on the phone –
But every parent is sure their creation is without a doubt a tremendous sensation.

Jennifer Davis

This is a place where grandmothers hold babies on their laps under the stars and whisper in their ears that the lights in the sky are holes in the floor of heaven.
