What a privilege to spend such an intimate moment with Toff and Macel, at this exciting time in their lives. Thank you for taking me to this special place in your love story, and for allowing me a glimpse of such a beautiful and exhilarating love!

The way she looks at him, the way he makes her laugh, they way they hold each other, the way they just make each other glow – every glance, every smile, every kiss – are all so thrilling and breathtaking, that it really does feel like watching two lead stars straight off the screen.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Rada, and may you have a lifetime of happiness, books, adventure, winter wonderlands and penguins!

#RadaGetSetGo!

I love her

and it is the beginning of everything.

F. Scott Fitzgerald

As he read,

I fell in love the way you fall asleep:

slowly, and then all at once.

“The Fault In Our Stars,” John Green

Laugh at the night, at the day, at the moon,

laugh at the twisted streets of the island,

laugh at this clumsy fool who loves you,

but when I open my eyes and close them,

when my steps go, when my steps return,

deny me bread, air, light, spring,

but never your laughter.

Pablo Neruda

There is not much left to see in this world if one sees her once.

Faraaz Kazi

No mistake about it.

Ice is cold; roses are red; I’m in love.

And this love is about to carry me off somewhere. The current’s too overpowering;

I don’t have any choice. It may very well be a special place, some place I’ve never seen before.

“Sputnik Sweetheart,” Haruki Murakami

(i do not know what it is about you that closes

and opens; only something in me understands

the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)

e.e. cummings

The moment we begin to seek love,

love begins to seek us.

And to save us.

“By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept,” Paulo Coelho

To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

“The Prophet,” Kahlil Gibran

Thank you Toff and Macel for such a beautiful day!

We sit and talk,
quietly, with long lapses of silence
and I am aware of the stream
that has no language, coursing
beneath the quiet heaven of
your eyes.

I believe
in love at first sight
but I will always believe
that the people
we love
we have loved before.
Many, many, many times before, and when we stumble
through grace and circumstance
and that brilliant illusion of choice
to finally meet them again,
we feel it faster
each time through.

The one glance that set life alight
is two sets of two eyes
staring through the layers
of lifetimes and stolen glances
and first kisses and hands held;
the brace against the weight
and unrelenting tide
of waiting.

I believe
in love at first sight
but am not burdened with the misconception
that it’s a first sight
at all.

All was over in a moment. I had fulfilled my destiny. I was a captive and a slave.

There was no pausing on the brink; no looking down, or looking back; I was gone, headlong, before I had sense to say a word to her.

I became aware of the world’s tenderness, the profound beneficence of all that surrounded me, the blissful bond between me and all of creation,

Filipino mythology with a twist, said my good friend Niner Guiao of Eskritoryo Pilipinas when she asked me to do a shoot for Polecats Manila’s 4th Anniversary Show. The twist, of course, was pole dancing, hoops and silks. I thank Niner for the challenge and the confidence, and the incredible dancers of Polecats Manila for introducing me to the awesome world of aerial arts!

Amihan: Indayog at Lahi is happening this Sunday, November 3 at the Meralco Theater in Pasig. Tickets are available at all SM Tickets branches and at the Polecats Manila Studio. Proceeds of Amihan will be going to the Eskritoryo Pilipinas reading and writing program for children called “Kwentong Munti.”

(You can also take part by joining the Sponsored Seats Initiative, where your contribution of Php300 will give children the opportunity to watch and learn from the show through our partnerships with Teach for the Philippines and Virlanie Foundation.)

Oh and guess what? Kuya Bodjie will be hosting the show!

 Makeup by the wonderful Jinky Ureta. Thank you Eskritoryo Pilipinas and Polecats Manila for an amazing day!

It was an extraordinarily hot summer, even for us here in the tropics. So naturally, there had to be a deluge on the day of our shoot. It turned out wonderful, with Audrey so luminous against the rain, eating Shakey’s pizza and contemplating names for her firstborn. I worked with the always amazing Monique Jaramillo-Señeres here, and many times during the day we’d forget that this dainty little creature here, so exquisite and tiny and radiant, was seven months pregnant.

Here’s a toast to the rainy season, the first days of class, and to mothers all around the world.

With soft rugs,

Let the mercuric
Atoms that cripple drip
Into the terrible well,

You are the one
Solid the spaces lean on, envious.

Ruth and Anthony are two of the most amazing, most hilarious people you’ll ever meet, and I’m not just saying this because I personally witnessed the backseat of our speeding car transform into the backstage of a runway show, with full hair and makeup and reflective discussions on stallions, godfathers and missionary camps transpiring between horse riding, tree climbing, sunset chasing and swing making (as in, we were making swings).

It is always an event every time these two find their way back to the Philippines, and I am rewarded every second, as a friend and as a photographer, with the love and time and trust they give me. Everything you see here is exactly that. Their love. Their time. Themselves. And their complete confidence in me, to go barefoot on sharp, slippery rocks during high tide, make out at high noon in long sleeves in 36 degrees Celsius siesta weather, and stay still and smiling for the cameras while their horses relieve themselves. I love you De Castros. Thank you. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day, and I am beyond excited at the days ahead. ♥

Thank you Bong and CJ of Threelogy! Please watch their wonderful video of this day here!

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Hold out your hands to feel the luxury of sunbeams. Press the soft blossoms against your cheek, and finger their graces of form, their delicate mutability of shape, their pliancy and freshness. Expose your face to the aerial floods that sweep the heavens, ‘inhale great draughts of space,’ wonder, wonder at the wind’s unwearied activity. Pile note on note the infinite music that flows increasingly to your soul from the tactual sonorities of a thousand branches and tumbling waters.
